SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. --

During a ceremony at the Schriever AFB event center, the 310th Operations Group received new leadership while bidding farewell to Col. Stephen Slade, outgoing commander. Col. Dean Sniegowski, 310th Space Wing commander, highlighted Slade’s time at the 310th OG and welcomed incoming commander, Col. Leland Leonard.

“I think Stephen Slade got here when it was still Falcon Air Force Base,” said Sniegowski. “He seems to know everybody at this base; sort of like the Mayor of Schriever.”

Sniegowski commented on Slade’s selection of squadron commanders within the group, stating that the leadership team he put together is phenomenal.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity afforded me to lead the men and women of the 310th Operations Group,” said Slade. “This was truly the best job I’ve had in the Air Force, in large part due to the outstanding men and women, both [regular Air Force] and Reserve that I had the opportunity and privilege of working with to accomplish so much.”

Slade commented that he would miss working with the members of the operations group each and every day as he moves into the role of vice commander for the 310th SW.

“Col. Leonard will be your strongest advocate,” said Slade. “And he will encourage, inspire and support you to reach your highest potential.”

Leonard expressed his excitement at being in Colorado, saying that it felt like coming home again.

“To the men and women of the 310th Operations Group, for pursuing excellence and achieving excellence with integrity and a dedication to service that is well known throughout the Air Force Reserve and the Air Force, thank you,” said Leonard. “I’m excited to work for and with the men and women of the 310th OG, as we pursue the right resources to do the following; Accelerate readiness and improve lethality while prioritizing our strategic depth and making sure we can be a resilient force. To develop resilient leaders, officer and enlisted, for the Air Force today with an eye to U.S. Space Command and Space Force tomorrow, leaders developed to be able to fill those types of positions. I’m excited to get to work and I look forward to seeing you all again!”
