Airmen and civilian staff from the 960th Cyberspace Wing welcomed Lt. Gen. Kevin B. Kennedy, commander of 16th Air Force, at Joint Base Lackland-Chapman Training Annex, Texas on January 6, 2023.

Kennedy was a guest for the Sword and Shield Podcast, hosted by Col. Rick Erredge, commander of the 960th Cyberspace Wing, where the two discussed strategic priorities and other topics related to the cyber workforce. After the recording session, Kennedy received an immersion briefing from wing members on current and future operations.

“We enjoyed showcasing the outstanding Airmen of America’s Premier Cyberspace Wing to Lt. Gen. Kennedy,” Erredge said. “It was a great opportunity to immerse him in the 960th Cyberspace Wing mission, functions, and roles as well as how our Airmen support 16th Air Force. Our strong partnership and collaboration allow our Airmen to bring their extensive cyber expertise and industry skills to help 16th Air Force solve difficult problems.”

While the 960th Cyberspace Wing falls under Reserve Command, they align as a cooperative partner in 16th Air Force’s cyber mission, providing unique expertise from Citizen Airmen for active-duty forces. The wing is Air Force Reserve Command’s first and only cyberspace wing.

Sixteenth Air Force, or Air Forces Cyber, is chiefly responsible for numerous capabilities in the cyberspace domain, an environment saturated with foundational network infrastructure within an equally broad range of industry systems across the nation. Due to the rapidly-paced nature of the domain, 16th Air Force and its partners’ commitment to the cyber mission ensure information superiority against malign actors and adversaries.

Kennedy later commented that the immersion brief he received displayed the 960th Cyberspace Wing’s capabilities and skillsets, which continue to increase our combat effectiveness and delivers outcomes for the nation.
