A reservist in the 419th Fighter Wing was among several Hill Air Force Base employees recognized during the second annual State of Utah Service Member of the Year awards June 9 at the Utah State Capitol Building Rotunda. Master Sgt. Sierra Beers was honored as the outstanding non-commissioned officer.

The Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs and Gov. Spencer J. Cox held the special ceremony to recognize the outstanding performers from each of the major military entities in the state representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Space Force.

“The awardees represent the best of the military in Utah,” Cox said. “Each one of them has a unique story and if they were asked for their comments, I am sure they would say a few things: first, that they are very appreciative and honored to receive the recognition; next, that there are so many others that should be recognized other than them, that they are humbled and a little embarrassed to be here, but mostly they would talk about working within such great organizations as a team, and this is really a team award.”

Beers works as a part-time reservist in the wing's 67th Aerial Port Squadron, where she processes and loads cargo, vehicles, and passengers. In her civilian career, she is a senior pharmacy technician who recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She also recently deployed to Africa, where she worked with the U.S. Marine Corps and helped provide critical supplies across the region.
