Two commanders take final flight at Hill

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah – Two commanders from the 419th Fighter Wing took their final flights in the F-35 Lightning II here March 21.
Col. David Smith, 419th FW commander, and Col. David Castaneda, 419th Operations Group commander, landed to a small crowd of family, friends, and wing personnel Wednesday afternoon.
Smith has served as commander since November 2015 and will take a new position in Washington, D.C. next month as mobilization assistant to the director, Operational Capability Requirements, Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategic Plans and Requirements.
Castaneda has been serving in the wing for nearly 17 years. He will also take a position in Washington, D.C. as Reserve Advisor, Directorate of Operations, Headquarters Air Force.
