Kenneth McCann DUKE FIELD, Fla. -- The 919th Special Operations Wing’ Citizen Air Commandos welcomed their new commander, Col. Frank "Les" Bradfield III, during an assumption of command ceremony at Duke Field, Fla., Aug. 6. Bradfield accepted the wing’s guidon from Maj. Gen. Bruce Miller, 10th Air Force commander, symbolizing the beginning of his command of the 919th SOW. “It’s truly a blessing to be back here,” said Bradfield. “I’m looking forward to getting out, seeing what you do and how you do it.” Miller lauded the 919th SOW’s outstanding reputation for supporting combatant commanders’ requirements around the world. “You, the 919th, are my weapon of choice,” said Miller. “When called at a moment’s notice, the wing is always there.” Along with the colonel, the wing welcomed his wife and two children. The 919th SOW is the sole special operations wing in the Air Force Reserve. The wing supports special operation missions throughout the Air Force. Prior to his current assignment, Bradfield was the commander, 439th Operations Group, Westover Air Reserve Base, Massachusetts. He also deployed for contingency operations four times and amassed over 500 combat hours in the A-10 and U-28.
