  • Space squadron celebrates heritage, reflects on past 25 years

    Twenty-five years ago, Maj. Frank Casserino had no idea what an impact his work as a Reserve Citizen Airman would have on the future of the Air Force Reserve’s involvement in the space program. He did know, however, that Reservists had a lot to offer to their active duty partners and he encouraged local leadership to consider standing up a Reserve space squadron.

    Col. Mark Stafford bid farewell to members of the 7th Space Operations Squadron during a change of command ceremony on Sunday while Lieutenant Col. James Hogan was welcomed in as the new 7 SOPS commander. Col. Stephen Slade, 310th Operations Group commander, presided over the ceremony.

    In today’s ever-changing and constantly evolving Air Force, Airmen are often encouraged by their leadership to be innovative and find the most efficient way to perform their job. First Lt. Brandon Sexton, while working on active duty at the 1st Space Operations Squadron on Schriever AFB, went above and beyond his call of duty to do just that.
  • 7 SOPS Citizen Airman nominated for Lance P. Sijan Award

    Staff Sgt. Michael E. Myers II, a Reserve Citizen Airman at the 7th Space Operations Squadron, was nominated by Air Force Reserve Command for the 2017 Lance P. Sijan award, Junior Enlisted Category, on August 29th. The award recognizes the accomplishments of officers and enlisted leaders who demonstrate the highest qualities of leadership in the performance of their duties and conduct of their personal lives.
