The 720th Security Forces Squadron was renamed to the 943rd Security Forces Squadron in a ceremony here on June 10, 2022.

The 943rd SFS was initially activated at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in February 2010. Since then they have been assigned under different numbered air forces and squadrons and tasked with supporting many different missions.

A unique feature of the 943rd Security Forces Squadron is that their traditional reserve members train for and support current operations at deployed locations, while also maintaining an active reserve entity that supports sister units on Davis-Monthan AFB. They work with the 355th Security Forces Squadron, known as "Desert Defenders”, who conduct worldwide force protection and security operations. They also support the 610th Command and Control Squadron, whose primary mission is to provide communications support to combatant commanders worldwide.

As the 943rd SFS, the unit will continue their mission to provide the most highly effective, cohesive, and disciplined security force defender professionals in the world, able to deploy at a moment’s notice to defend and protect U.S. military personnel and our allies.
